CNN Settles 'Vodka Mom' Lawsuit

- January 04, 2013

Cable News Network (CNN) agreed to a settlement this week with the family of a Minnesota woman who set herself on fire after being referred to as "Vodka Mom" by talk show host Nancy Grace, according to an announcement by the family's lawyer this week.

The suit was filed by the family of 29-year-old Toni Medrano who died after setting herself on fire in July 2012, just a few weeks after being called "Vodka Mom" on the "Nancy Grace" show.

Police reports reveal that Medrano rolled over onto her sleeping 3-week-old son in November 2011 after drinking a fifth of vodka. She was charged in June of 2012 with manslaughter, and killed herself in July, just three weeks after the airing of the "Nancy Grace" show.

The financial terms of the settlement have not been disclosed.
